There’s something about online writing that makes us feel we have to share more and more of ourselves, and it can rapidly become unhealthy and unsustainable. So I applaud your sensible decision to go in the opposite direction, though I’m also a little sad about it because your articles are among the best things I’ve come across in this space. I look forward to your monthly posts, Alia! 💛

I totally understand and am thinking of reducing my own output (not just for me to save time but also for others to be free of my incessant blathering ;) I agree with Steve, these platforms drain so much time and energy and we humans need to choose our own speed and output, so good on ya Alia.

I really love your writing and recordings and I'll definitely be reading and listening to whatever you've got to share however often that might be :)

time . Marcel Proust managed it well; got years worth of words into one day.

Time astronomical events that take place in nanosecs. No winding the clock. Now all is Digital didgeree dew. Now thats progress.

Have a lovely holiday Alia, and precious time with your family. I admire your decision, time is precious, however one looks at it. I will look forward to your essays. I’ve enjoyed writing alongside you here on substack this past year. Take care, Kate

Alia, you can’t be serious! I wake up at 4:11 AM with the absolute most grandiose backache, and now THIS? Did I mention that my dog and all her puppies died…my great-great granny got run over by a blind guy on a motorcycle…my wife actually UNDERSTANDS me (oh that’s going to turn out well)…I’ve got a rash on my—never mind—oh, the humanity! What’s the use…I’ll just have to go through your back issues and pine for…what…might…have…been…. Alia, thank you for a whole year of putting your heart, soul, and above all, your ultra-flexible mind into your fortnightly posts. Some of the best writing I’ve ever had the pleasure, honor and privilege of reading. (And I’m sixty-eight and I’ve read about a book a week since I was ten.). Whatever it is that’s pulling you away from your keyboard, I hate it. HATE IT! But you’re absolutely right, the passage of time is unkind at its best and unthinkable at its worst. I’ll just have to binge on Cheez-its and exploitation films, washed down with Ron Bacardi taken from a sippy-cup, to make it through ‘til the end of each month. With much gratitude, respect and love—Rafael, Your Number One Fan Always And Forever!
