A powerful essay Alia, I felt its gravity. It’s hard to imagine humans on mars, but then it just have been the same due those living fifty years ago when human first landed on the moon. I am worried and concerned, peace up there doesn’t seem to be defined any differently than down here. We can only wait and see, and perhaps add our voices to debates. So many beautiful lines in this piece. 🌘
Thanks Kate, that's very kind of you to say, particularly because this has proven to be my least popular essay ever, haha (on Substack at least, strangely, the podcast seems to be doing well). Ah well, can't win them all. But yes, it would be reassuring if space exploration (particularly in lower earth orbit and on the moon) wasn't so tied up with military technology and intelligence communications. I get the sense we'd just get on with working together if it wasn't for those schisms.
To look at the earth from outer space must be the most beautiful thing imaginable. I'm going to start reading Orbital tonight while the mood's got me :)
Oh the joys of writing on Substack. I hear you Alia. Enjoy Orbital, it’s almost as good as seeing the Earth from space. And I have to get with the times and listen to your podcast, still reading here! Take care
I think I’m going to start sounding like a broken record: can’t we just have a moratorium on inventing things for ten years and think about people for a while? Thanks, Alia for another great mind flex!

It does feel like the world is kinda running around like a bull in a china shop. We can pause it for 10 and maybe rewind it a little, too 😄
